More whiz! More bang! More flash! And all for the same low, low price! Why do we do it, then? For love. I love you. You're beautiful.

About the name

"The Ansible" comes from the science fiction novels of Orson Scott Card and refers to a device which allows for faster-than-light communications across the universe. Thus an oblique reference to the way I hope things will go with the 'net. Now that I'm not into Sci-Fi I've gotten a bit embarrassed by the name, but since the only other thing I can think of is "Neil's Nest of Nuggets," the name stays.

About the design

Page design by Whiskey Sims, whose motto is "Give me Photoshop and a fifth of Jack, and there ain't nothin' I can't do." Actually, I lie. As much as I would like to pass the blame on to someone else, I designed the site myself. I owe a heavy debt to the All Music Guide site, whose design ideas for the title page I appropriated wholesale. But hey, this is my first attempt at making a vaguely slick sort of page, and I need all the help I can get. The main graphic on my page is of Totoro, a creation of Miyazaki Hayao, who features in one of the most magical movies of all-time, Tonari no Totoro. Some of my friends take issue with the, erm... pansy-ness of some of the graphics on this site, but to hell with them. Totoro is so magnificent that it transcends any possible pansy inclinations.

Graphics were originally done with Paint Shop Pro, a handy dandy shareware program that works pretty damn good. I wish I had Photoshop, but alas, Photoshop costs zillions of dollars and it would take too long for me to pirate on my 28.8k modem. I wish I had a fifth of Jack too, but that's a different story...

Notice

This page was designed with a modern-day browser in mind, i.e., IE or Netscape. Netscape being the Ansible's preferred credit card, of course. So there is some JavaScript functionality and the alt-tag coding is inconsistent. So turn javascript and images on.

Disclaimer

I may occasionally and inconsistently use english spellings of words like "colour" and "centre" on this site. This is just a matter of preference. I'm not British, and not much of an Anglophile. And anyone who thinks otherwise is a bloody wanker.
